Intercom Failure Locking You Out
A failed intercom isn’t just an inconvenience — it’s a security risk and an access emergency. If you can’t get into your own property because the intercom has failed, that is an emergency access-control fault.
- Lobby door won’t open: Residents or visitors stuck outside because the door release has stopped responding to the intercom button.
- Intercom completely dead: No power, no display, no response — the entire system has failed and access is blocked.
- Gate locked in closed position: Vehicles or pedestrians blocked from entering or exiting the property.
- Apartment building affected: Multiple tenants unable to receive visitors or deliveries due to a failed lobby panel.
Security Risk, Not Just Inconvenience
A failed intercom means your building’s first line of access control is down. Anyone can enter without being screened — a serious security exposure for residential and commercial properties alike.
Priority Access Fault Handling
Lockout situations are treated as priority access faults. We confirm the service details clearly and test the release circuit, power supply and door hardware before repair options are confirmed.
Access-Focused Repair Support
Intercom faults can affect access without warning. We focus on safe diagnosis, practical repair options and reliable restoration of entry control.
Door Release Not Working in Emergency Situations
When the button on your handset or the phone app fails to unlock the door or gate, it’s not just frustrating — it can be a genuine safety emergency. Here’s what causes it and how we fix it.
Failed Relay Output on the Intercom Panel
The relay that triggers the electric strike has burned out or lost its programming. The intercom works but the door release signal never fires.
Electric Strike or Magnetic Lock Failure
The hardware on the door frame itself has failed — the strike isn’t receiving voltage or the mag lock coil has burned out.
Broken Wiring Between Panel and Lock
A cut, corroded, or disconnected wire in the door release circuit means the signal never reaches the lock hardware.
App or SIP Configuration Error
For IP intercoms, a misconfigured relay output in the software means the app button sends no physical unlock command.
Door Release Circuit
We test every component in the release chain — from the button press to the lock hardware — to pinpoint exactly where the signal is lost.
Intercom System Completely Offline
When your intercom shows no power, no display, and no response at all, the entire system has failed. This isn’t a minor fault — it’s a full outage that cuts off access control, visitor communication, and building security simultaneously.
- Power supply failure: The transformer or PSU feeding the intercom has failed — the most common cause of a completely dead system.
- Blown fuse or tripped circuit: A surge or short circuit has cut power to the intercom panel without triggering a visible alarm.
- Main control board failure: The central processing board has failed — no power reaches the handsets, door stations, or display panels.
- Wiring fault or water ingress: A severed cable, corroded terminal, or water-damaged junction box has broken the power circuit entirely.
- Network or PoE failure (IP systems): For IP intercoms, a failed PoE switch or network outage can take the entire system offline.
What We Test During Diagnosis
We measure incoming voltage at the panel, test the PSU output, check fuse continuity, and trace the power circuit from the switchboard to every connected device — identifying the exact failure point before touching anything.
Parts for Common Failures
Power supply units, transformer modules, and control boards for Aiphone, Comelit, BPT, and Urmet systems are commonly used in full-outage repairs. Repair options depend on the system model, fault type and compatible parts.
Temporary Access While We Repair
If the repair requires a specific part, we can assess whether a temporary bypass on the door release is safe and appropriate while the required component is sourced through the correct parts channel.
Root Cause, Not Just a Restart
We don’t just restore power and leave. We identify why the system failed — whether it’s a voltage spike, water ingress, or aging hardware — and fix the underlying cause so it doesn’t happen again.
One-way audio is usually a hardware, wiring or configuration fault — not something to ignore.
One-Way Audio Preventing Entry Verification
If you can hear the visitor but they can’t hear you — or vice versa — you can’t safely verify who’s at the door before releasing the lock. This is a security failure, not just a nuisance. Here’s what causes it and how we fix it.
Failed Microphone (Door Station)
The outdoor microphone capsule has failed or corroded. Visitor can’t hear you because their station isn’t picking up your voice — common in older or weathered outdoor units.
Blown Speaker (Indoor Handset)
The handset speaker has failed or the audio amplifier board has burned out. You can speak but hear nothing back — the incoming audio signal is lost before it reaches you.
Wiring Break in Audio Circuit
A broken or corroded wire on the audio pair between the door station and handset interrupts one direction of the circuit. Common after building works, pest damage, or long-term corrosion.
Audio Board or Amplifier Fault
The main intercom control board has a failed audio channel. One direction of audio is processed correctly while the other is dead — requires board-level diagnosis and replacement.
Emergency Repairs for Stuck Gates or Doors
When the intercom-linked gate or door won’t open or close, you’re dealing with a combined access control and security emergency. The fault could be in the intercom relay, the gate hardware, the wiring between them, or all three. Here’s every cause we diagnose and fix.
The intercom’s internal relay — the component that sends the “open” signal to the gate or electric strike — has failed or lost its programming. The button press registers on the intercom but no signal reaches the gate controller. We test relay output voltage and reprogram or replace the relay board.
The low-voltage cable carrying the release signal from the intercom panel to the gate motor or electric strike has been cut, corroded, or disconnected. Common after landscaping work, pest damage, or long-term weathering. We trace and re-run the cable run end-to-end.
The gate motor receives the open signal from the intercom but the motor controller board, capacitor, or drive mechanism has failed. The gate doesn’t move even though the intercom is working correctly. We diagnose the motor controller and coordinate repair or replacement.
For door-linked intercoms, the electric strike or mag lock hardware on the door frame has failed — either not releasing when powered, or not holding when it should. We test strike voltage, check the latch alignment, and replace the hardware if needed.
The gate is physically jammed — misaligned track, debris obstruction, or a failed limit switch preventing the motor from engaging. The intercom fires correctly but the gate can’t move. We inspect the mechanical components and clear or adjust the obstruction.
A failed relay, shorted wire, or faulty gate controller can leave the gate permanently open — a serious security exposure. We identify the fault causing the gate to hold open and restore normal open/close operation after testing.
What We Test During Diagnosis
We diagnose the full intercom-to-gate circuit — from the button press to the gate movement — to pinpoint exactly where the signal is lost or the hardware has failed.
Intercom Buzzing or Door Unlocking Randomly — Security Emergency
A door unlocking on its own or a constant buzzing tone isn’t just annoying — it’s a security failure. If your intercom is releasing the door without anyone pressing the button, or producing constant audio interference, the system is actively compromised and needs professional attention.
- Shorted relay output: A failed or shorted relay on the intercom board is permanently sending the “open” signal — the door releases continuously or at random intervals.
- Ground loop causing audio buzz: A difference in earth potential between the door station and indoor handset creates a hum through the speaker — constant and impossible to ignore.
- Corroded or shorted wiring: Water-damaged or corroded cables between the intercom and door hardware can create a permanent short — mimicking a button press and triggering the release relay continuously.
- RF interference triggering IP relay: For IP intercoms, nearby RF sources or a misconfigured automation integration can send spurious “unlock” commands to the relay output.
- Relay Isolation Test: We disconnect the relay output and monitor whether the door hardware still triggers — isolating whether the fault is in the intercom board or the downstream wiring.
- Wiring Short Detection: Using a multimeter, we test every cable in the release circuit for continuity shorts — identifying corroded or water-damaged sections causing phantom triggers.
- Ground Loop Elimination: We measure earth potential between the door station and handset, then install isolation transformers or re-route the earth path to eliminate audio hum permanently.
- Board-Level Relay Replacement: If the relay on the control board has failed in the closed position, we replace the relay component or the entire board — restoring normal trigger-only operation.
- IP Relay Configuration Audit: For IP systems, we audit the relay output configuration, check for rogue automation triggers, and lock down the relay to authorised commands only.
- Full Security Verification: We confirm the door only releases on a deliberate button press and test repeated cycles to ensure no phantom triggers remain.
Faulty Intercom Preventing Emergency Remote Access in Melbourne
Can’t open the door from your phone when you need to? Remote access failure can be an urgent access-control fault — here’s every cause and how we diagnose and repair it.
Root Causes We Diagnose
- ✦SIP Registration Failure: The intercom has lost its SIP registration with the server or PBX — the app rings but the intercom never receives the call, so the unlock button never fires.
- ✦Network Connectivity Loss: The intercom has dropped off the local network — either a failed PoE port, DHCP lease expiry, or a VLAN misconfiguration after a router change.
- ✦App Authentication Expired: The intercom’s API token or cloud account credentials have expired or been revoked — the app connects but can’t send commands to the hardware.
- ✦Relay Not Mapped to App Button: The app button is configured but the relay output mapping has been lost after a firmware update or factory reset — the button press sends no physical signal.
- ✦Firewall or Port Blocking: A router or firewall change has blocked the SIP ports or cloud relay service — the app appears connected but commands never reach the intercom.
- ✦Firmware Bug After Update: A firmware update has introduced a bug affecting the remote relay function — the intercom works locally but remote unlock is broken.
Our Repair Process
- ✔SIP Re-registration: We reconfigure the SIP account credentials, verify the registrar address, and confirm the intercom is registered and receiving calls before testing the unlock function.
- ✔Network Diagnosis: We assign a static IP, verify PoE power delivery, check VLAN tagging, and confirm the intercom is reachable on the local network and from the cloud service.
- ✔App & API Reconfiguration: We re-authenticate the app, refresh API tokens, and verify the cloud account is active and linked to the correct device serial number.
- ✔Relay Output Remapping: We access the intercom’s web interface or configuration tool and remap the relay output to the correct app button — then test the full unlock cycle remotely.
- ✔Port & Firewall Audit: We check router NAT rules, open required SIP and HTTPS ports, and configure STUN/TURN settings for reliable remote connectivity through any network.
- ✔Firmware Rollback or Patch: If a firmware update caused the fault, we roll back to the last stable version or apply the manufacturer’s patch — restoring full remote functionality.
Emergency Intercom Repairs for Apartment Lockouts
When the lobby intercom fails in an apartment building, it’s not one person locked out — it’s every resident, visitor, and delivery affected simultaneously. We treat apartment lockouts as high-priority access-control faults.
- Lobby panel completely dead: The master panel has lost power or the control board has failed — no residents can buzz visitors in and the door release is non-functional.
- Individual unit handsets not ringing: The lobby panel is working but specific apartment handsets aren’t receiving calls — caused by a failed handset, broken wiring to that unit, or a bus communication fault.
- Door release not responding: Residents can communicate through the intercom but pressing the unlock button does nothing — the relay output or electric strike has failed.
- Multi-tenant system bus fault: A fault on the communication bus between the lobby panel and individual units is causing all or some handsets to go offline — requires bus-level diagnosis and repair.
- Power supply failure to master panel: The PSU feeding the lobby master panel has failed — taking the entire building’s intercom system offline simultaneously.
- Temporary bypass while we repair: If the repair requires a part we don’t carry, we assess whether a temporary door release bypass is safe and appropriate while the required component is sourced.
Apartment Building Specialists
We’ve repaired multi-tenant intercom systems across Melbourne’s inner suburbs — from small apartment blocks to larger residential buildings.

Call 0406 432 691Intercom Failure During Deliveries or Visitors
A failed intercom doesn’t just inconvenience you — it stops deliveries, blocks tradespeople, and leaves visitors stranded outside. A failed system can disrupt access, security and daily building operations.
Missed Deliveries
Courier can’t reach you — parcels may be returned to depot, left unsecured, or delayed because the entry system is not working.
Visitors Locked Out
Guests, family, or clients can’t enter. No way to communicate or grant access — a frustrating and embarrassing situation.
Tradespeople Blocked
Plumbers, electricians, or maintenance crews can’t access the property — delaying urgent repairs and potentially adding extra call-out costs.
Emergency Services Delayed
Ambulance, fire, or police may be unable to gain clear access to the building — a serious consequence of a failed lobby intercom.
Why Delaying the Repair Creates Problems
When your intercom is down, deliveries pile up, visitors are turned away, and your building’s access control is compromised. For commercial properties and apartment buildings, a failed intercom directly affects business operations and tenant satisfaction. We treat delivery and visitor access failures as urgent access faults, not routine maintenance.
Our Emergency Response When We Arrive
We diagnose the full access chain methodically. If the fault is a failed PSU, relay, or wiring break, we repair it where the fault and parts allow. If a part needs ordering, a temporary access option may be configured while the required component is sourced.
Emergency Repairs for Residential Properties
For homes and townhouses, a failed intercom means you can’t screen visitors before opening the door — a security concern as much as a convenience issue. We restore full audio, video, and door release function so you’re back in control of who enters your property.
Emergency Repairs for Commercial & Retail Properties
For offices, retail, and commercial buildings, a failed intercom disrupts staff access, client entry, and goods delivery simultaneously. We prioritise commercial emergency call-outs and coordinate with building managers to minimise disruption.
Power Loss Affecting Intercom Entry Systems
When power goes out or an electrical fault occurs, intercoms can fail in ways that affect entry control, door release and visitor communication. Here’s every power-related fault we diagnose and repair.
Mains Power Outage Recovery
After a blackout, the intercom doesn’t always come back online correctly. We check the PSU, reset the control board, and verify all handsets and door stations have restored correctly after mains power returns.
Blown Fuse or Tripped Breaker
A surge or short circuit has blown the intercom’s dedicated fuse or tripped the circuit breaker. The system appears completely dead. We identify the cause of the trip, replace the fuse, and restore power safely.
Failed Power Supply Unit (PSU)
The transformer or PSU feeding the intercom has been damaged by a voltage spike or has simply failed from age. We test output voltage, replace the PSU with a compatible unit, and verify stable power delivery to all connected devices.
Voltage Spike Damage
A lightning strike or grid surge has damaged the intercom’s control board or PSU. Components may appear powered but behave erratically. We test every board for surge damage and replace affected components.
PoE Switch Failure (IP Systems)
For IP intercoms powered over Ethernet, a failed PoE switch or injector cuts power to the door station. We test PoE output, replace the switch or injector, and verify the intercom powers up and registers on the network.
Backup Battery Failure
Some intercom systems include a backup battery for power continuity. A failed battery means the system goes offline during a power interruption. We test battery health, replace failed cells, and verify backup operation.
Before You Call — Check This First
Look at your switchboard for a tripped breaker labelled “intercom”, “entry”, or “door”. If nothing is tripped and the system is still dead, the fault is internal and needs professional diagnosis and repair.
Surge Protection Recommendation
After repairing power-related intercom faults, we recommend installing a dedicated surge protector on the intercom circuit. This helps prevent repeat damage from grid fluctuations and extends the life of your system.
No Power to the Panel
The entry panel has no power — no lights, no display, no response to button presses. The PSU or transformer feeding the panel has failed, or the dedicated circuit has tripped. We restore power and verify stable voltage before testing all functions.
Touchscreen or Keypad Failure
The panel powers on but the touchscreen or physical keypad doesn’t register any input. The touch digitiser, keypad membrane, or input controller has failed. We replace the input component or the entire panel face depending on the fault.
Communication Bus Fault
The entry panel is powered but can’t communicate with the main control unit — a bus wiring fault or failed bus driver chip is blocking all commands. We trace the bus cable, test termination resistors, and restore communication.
Water or Vandalism Damage
The outdoor entry panel has been damaged by water ingress, impact, or vandalism — causing internal short circuits or physical damage to the PCB. We assess the damage, replace affected components, and reseal the enclosure.
Firmware Crash or Lockout
For IP and digital entry panels, a firmware crash or failed update can leave the panel completely unresponsive — powered but frozen. We perform a factory reset, reflash the firmware, and reconfigure the panel settings.
Emergency Repairs for Entry Panels Not Responding
When the keypad or call panel at your door is completely unresponsive, no one can ring through, enter a code, or request access. It’s a full access control failure that needs professional diagnosis and repair.
- Visitors can’t call through: No way to notify residents or staff that someone is at the door — the call button does nothing.
- Access codes not accepted: The keypad won’t register PIN entries — residents and staff can’t use their codes to enter.
- Fob or card reader offline: The integrated access reader on the entry panel has stopped responding — fobs and cards no longer grant entry.
- Display blank or frozen: The panel screen shows nothing or is stuck on a frozen state — no feedback to the user on any input.
Call Signal Path
Where the fault breaks the chain
Emergency: Intercom Not Calling Indoor Units in Melbourne
Visitor presses the button, the door station lights up — but nothing happens inside. No ring, no chime, no notification. This is an access emergency — no one inside knows someone is at the door. Here’s every place the signal breaks and how we diagnose and restore it.
Door Station Button Fault
The call button on the outdoor station has failed mechanically or electrically — it appears to press but sends no signal to the control panel. We test button continuity and replace the switch or station.
Control Panel Call Routing
The main panel receives the button press but fails to route the call to the correct handset — caused by a failed call processor or incorrect unit addressing after a reset.
Bus Wiring Break
The communication cable between the control panel and indoor handsets has a break or corrosion point — the call signal never reaches the handset. We trace and repair the bus run.
Failed Indoor Handset
The handset itself has failed — the ringer, speaker, or internal PCB is dead. The signal arrives but the handset can’t produce a ring tone or alert. We replace the handset unit.
SIP / IP Call Registration
For IP intercoms, the indoor monitor or app has lost SIP registration — calls are sent but never received. We re-register the device and verify call delivery end-to-end.
Volume / DND Setting
The handset ringer has been muted or Do Not Disturb activated — calls arrive silently. We check handset settings and restore audible ring before confirming the fault is resolved.
Emergency Fixes for Access Control Integration Failures
When your intercom stops triggering locks, gates, or connected access systems, the entire entry control chain breaks down. We diagnose and repair every integration point — from the intercom relay to the access controller to the hardware it drives.
Intercom Relay Not Triggering Access Controller
The intercom’s dry contact relay output is supposed to send a signal to the access controller when the unlock button is pressed. If the relay has failed or the wiring between them is broken, the access system never receives the trigger — the door stays locked regardless of what the intercom does.
Access Controller Not Responding to Intercom Signal
The intercom relay fires correctly but the access controller does not react. This can happen when the controller input is disabled, mapped incorrectly, damaged by voltage, or disconnected from the lock output. We test the input, controller programming, power, and lock output before confirming the repair path.
Reader or Keypad Linked to Intercom Failing
Many buildings combine intercom entry with keypad, fob, or card-reader access. If the reader wiring, controller input, or reader power has failed, residents may lose normal entry while visitors also cannot be released through the intercom. We isolate the reader, controller and lock circuit to find the real fault.
Apartment Lobby Panel Not Releasing Main Entry
In apartment buildings, the lobby intercom may still call units while the main entry door remains locked. We test the lobby panel relay, the access controller input, the electric strike or magnetic lock, and any shared power supply feeding the door hardware.
Lift or Floor Access Not Triggering
Some intercoms are integrated with lift control or floor access permissions. If the intercom call is accepted but the lift access does not activate, we check relay mapping, controller input state, floor-control programming, and the cable path between systems.
Fail-Safe or Fail-Secure Lock Behaviour Wrong
A lock wired the wrong way can create a security or safety problem. The door may stay locked when it should release, or release when it should remain secure. We confirm the lock type, power mode, relay wiring, access-control logic and safe egress requirements before adjusting the system.
We do not assume the intercom is the only fault. We test the call panel, relay, access controller, reader input, power supply, lock hardware and door alignment so the repair addresses the real failure point.
Intercom System Short Circuit or Electrical Fault
When your intercom trips the breaker, shuts down unexpectedly, or causes other electrical equipment to malfunction, there’s an active electrical fault in the system. This isn’t a software glitch — it’s a hardware problem that can damage connected equipment and poses a safety risk if left unresolved.
- Breaker trips repeatedly: The intercom circuit trips the switchboard breaker every time power is restored — indicating a persistent short circuit drawing excessive current.
- System shuts down randomly: The intercom powers off without warning — the PSU is overheating due to a partial short, or the thermal protection is cutting power to prevent damage.
- Burning smell or visible scorch marks: A component on the control board or PSU has overheated and burned — the system must be powered off and inspected before any further use.
- Intermittent power loss: Loose terminals, damaged cabling, water ingress or a failing transformer can interrupt power and cause the intercom to reset or drop offline.
- Door station water damage: Moisture inside the outdoor unit can bridge terminals and cause a short circuit through the audio, video or release wiring.
Isolation & Safe Power-Down
We isolate the intercom circuit at the switchboard before touching anything — ensuring no live voltage is present during diagnosis.
Insulation Resistance Testing
We use a megohmmeter to test insulation resistance across all cables — identifying which conductor has broken down and is causing the short to earth or between conductors.
Component-Level Board Inspection
We visually inspect the control board and PSU for burned components, failed capacitors, and scorch marks — identifying the exact component that failed and caused the fault.
Fault Isolation by Section
We disconnect each section of the system, including the door station, handsets and PSU, and test current draw to pinpoint which component is causing the excessive load.
Repair or Replace Faulty Components
We replace the shorted cable section, failed PSU, burned board, or damaged door station — whichever component caused the fault — with a compatible replacement.
Load Test Before Handover
We power the system back up under load and monitor current draw before restoring the circuit breaker to normal operation.
Emergency Restoration of Multi-Tenant Entry Systems
When the intercom system serving an entire apartment building or commercial complex fails, every tenant, resident, visitor, and delivery is affected simultaneously. We treat whole-building intercom failures as priority access-control faults.
Our Multi-Tenant Repair Process
From the first call to system testing and handover, this is how we assess and repair whole-building intercom faults.
Call Received & Triaged
We assess the fault type over the phone, confirm the number of affected units, and handle the job as a priority access-control issue.
Technician Attendance
We attend with diagnostic equipment and common replacement parts for major multi-tenant brands including Aiphone, Comelit, BPT, Urmet, Fermax, and 2N.
Full System Diagnosis
We test the master panel, PSU, bus wiring, door release circuit and individual unit connections before confirming the fault point and affected components.
Temporary Access Option
If the repair requires parts we do not carry, we assess whether a temporary door release bypass is safe and appropriate while the required component is sourced.
Repair & Restoration
Common multi-tenant faults such as PSU failure, master panel problems and bus wiring faults are repaired where system condition and compatible parts allow. We test affected units before signing off.
Emergency: Intercom App or Mobile Access Failure in Melbourne
App stops working and you cannot open the door remotely. Select your symptom to see the likely cause and how we diagnose the mobile access fault.
App Not Receiving Calls
The intercom rings at the door station but the app never alerts you. The SIP registration between the intercom and your phone has lapsed, the app’s background permissions have been revoked by your phone OS, or the intercom’s call routing has lost the app as a registered endpoint.
How We Fix It
We re-register the SIP account on the intercom, verify the app’s push notification and background permissions, and test a live call end-to-end during final testing. For cloud-based systems, we re-link the device to the account and confirm call delivery.
Unlock Button Not Working
The app receives the call and you can speak to the visitor, but pressing the unlock button does nothing. The relay output mapping has been lost, the API command is being blocked by a firewall, or the intercom’s relay configuration was reset during a firmware update.
How We Fix It
We access the intercom’s configuration interface, remap the relay output to the correct app button, verify that the API command reaches the hardware, and test the unlock function repeatedly before confirming the repair.
App Shows Offline / Disconnected
The app shows the intercom as offline or permanently disconnected. The intercom has lost its network connection — either a DHCP lease has expired, the PoE switch has failed, or a router change has put the intercom on a different subnet that the cloud service cannot reach.
How We Fix It
We assign a static IP to the intercom, verify PoE power delivery, check VLAN and subnet configuration, and confirm the intercom is reachable from the cloud service. We then re-pair the device to the app account and verify online status.
No Video in App
The app receives calls and the unlock button works, but the video feed is black or never loads. The video stream codec is incompatible with the app version, the RTSP stream URL has changed after a firmware update, or the network’s upload bandwidth is insufficient for the video stream.
How We Fix It
We verify the RTSP stream URL, check codec compatibility between the intercom firmware and app version, test network bandwidth, and adjust video quality settings to support reliable streaming on the available connection.
App Worked — Stopped After Update
Everything worked until a firmware update on the intercom or an app update on your phone broke the integration. API endpoints may have changed, authentication tokens may have been invalidated, or a new firmware version introduced a bug affecting the relay or call function.
How We Fix It
We identify whether the fault is in the intercom firmware or the app version, roll back or patch as required, re-authenticate the app connection, and verify all required functions — calls, video and unlock — on the updated configuration.
Notifications Not Arriving
The intercom calls through and the app works, but you are not getting push notifications when someone presses the button. Push notification permissions may have been revoked, background refresh may be disabled, or the cloud notification service may have lost the device token.
How We Fix It
We check and restore push notification permissions on the phone OS, re-register the device token with the cloud notification service, enable background app refresh, and test notification delivery with the phone screen locked.
Temporary Access Restoration During Emergencies
When a full repair is not possible during the booked attendance because a part needs ordering or a specialist component is not available, we can often restore basic access so residents and staff are not locked out while the required repair is arranged.
What “Temporary Restoration” Actually Means
A temporary bypass restores physical access to the building — it does not restore full intercom functionality. Audio, video, and remote access may remain offline until the permanent repair is completed. We always explain exactly what is and is not working during handover, and we document the temporary measure in writing.
- We only implement temporary bypasses with the property owner or manager’s explicit consent — never without authorisation.
- Every temporary measure is documented in our job report — including what was bypassed, why, and what is required for the permanent repair.
- We advise on any security implications of the temporary measure and recommend additional precautions where appropriate.
- Parts for common intercom brands are sourced through the appropriate supplier channel, and the permanent repair is confirmed once the required component is available.
Door Release Relay Bypass
TemporaryWe wire a direct bypass across the door release relay so the electric strike or mag lock can be triggered manually — restoring physical entry without the intercom button. Used when the intercom control board has failed but the door hardware is intact.
Limitation: Removes electronic access control — door can be opened without intercom authorisation. Suitable only with appropriate supervision.
PSU Substitution
TemporaryIf the intercom’s power supply has failed but the control board is intact, we can connect a compatible temporary PSU to restore power to the system while a replacement PSU is sourced.
Limitation: Temporary PSU may not support all system functions at full capacity. We advise on any reduced functionality during handover.
Handset Substitution
TemporaryFor single-unit faults where one handset has failed, we can connect a compatible loan handset to restore call and door release function for that unit while the replacement is ordered.
Limitation: Loan handset may differ in features from the original. Video function may not be available on all substitutions.
Permanent Repair Preferred
PreferredWhere the fault and available parts allow — PSU failure, relay fault, wiring break or handset replacement — we complete a full permanent repair during the booked attendance. No bypass is required when full functionality can be restored safely.
This is always our first preference. We only implement temporary measures when a permanent repair genuinely is not possible during the booked attendance.
