Reolink CCTV FAQ for Melbourne Homes and Small Sites
These answers cover the questions we hear most often about installation, recording, app access, night footage, upgrades and long-term suitability for homes and smaller business properties.
Installation & Setup
1) How long does it take to install a Reolink CCTV system?
Most residential installations take 3–8 hours. Timing depends on the number of cameras, roof access, and whether the home is single or double storey.
2) Should I choose Reolink PoE or wireless cameras?
PoE cameras are more stable and allow 24/7 recording. Wireless or battery cameras are easier to install but depend on Wi-Fi and usually record only on motion.
3) Can Reolink use my existing Cat5 or Cat6 cabling?
Yes, existing network cables can often be reused if they are in good condition and correctly terminated. Each cable should be tested before installation.
4) Where should Reolink cameras be installed?
Cameras are best installed under the eaves, positioned to cover entry points, driveway, and side access while avoiding direct sunlight and reflections.
Recording & Storage
5) Do Reolink cameras record 24/7?
PoE cameras connected to an NVR can record continuously. Battery cameras usually record only when motion is detected to save power.
6) How much hard drive storage do I need?
Storage depends on camera resolution, number of cameras, and recording mode. Higher resolution and continuous recording require larger hard drives.
7) Can I view Reolink cameras on a monitor or TV?
Yes. Reolink NVRs support HDMI output, allowing live view and playback directly on a monitor or television.
App, Internet & Remote Access
8) Can I access my Reolink cameras remotely?
Yes. The Reolink mobile app allows live view and playback from anywhere using an internet connection.
9) Why does the Reolink app say “Camera Offline”?
This usually indicates a power or network issue, such as Wi-Fi dropouts, router changes, or a loose cable connection.
10) Do Reolink cameras work without internet?
Yes. Cameras can still record locally to the NVR or SD card. Internet is only required for remote viewing and notifications.
Night Vision & Motion Alerts
11) Do Reolink cameras work well at night?
Yes. Most models use infrared night vision, and some support colour night vision using built-in spotlights.
12) Why is night footage blurry or washed out?
This is commonly caused by infrared reflection from walls, eaves, spider webs, or dirt on the camera lens.
13) Why do I get false motion alerts?
Movement from trees, shadows, rain, or insects can trigger alerts. Adjusting motion zones and sensitivity reduces false notifications.
Reliability, Security & Support
14) Can I add more Reolink cameras later?
Yes, as long as your NVR has spare channels and your network can support additional cameras.
15) Is Reolink suitable for long-term use?
Yes, especially for homes and many small business sites, provided the system is installed properly and matched to the property. For complex multi-building, high-risk or heavily regulated environments, a more commercial-grade platform may be the better choice.
16) Can you fix or upgrade an existing Reolink system?
Yes. We can troubleshoot offline cameras, fix recording issues, improve app setup, and upgrade storage or camera layouts.
17) Is Reolink CCTV secure from hacking?
When configured correctly with strong passwords and updated firmware, Reolink systems are reasonably secure for residential use.
18) How much does Reolink CCTV installation cost in Melbourne?
Pricing depends on camera quantity, storeys, cable path difficulty, cavity access, recorder setup and whether conduit is needed. This page includes ballpark package pricing, but final cost still depends on the site layout and access conditions.
19) Do you provide after-installation support?
Yes. Ongoing support, troubleshooting, and maintenance are available to keep your CCTV system running reliably.
20) Is Reolink better than professional CCTV brands?
Not universally. Reolink is strong value for homes and many smaller sites because it is easier to use and usually more budget-friendly. Higher-tier commercial brands may still be a better fit where you need deeper analytics, larger system architecture or stricter commercial requirements.
