Urmet Intercom Repair Melbourne
Urmet Intercom Repair in Melbourne
Your Urmet intercom buzzes but the screen stays black. Or you hear the visitor but they cannot hear you, or the door will not release when you press the button. We repair Urmet door stations, indoor monitors and door release across Melbourne.
SIPKO Security handles Urmet intercom repair in Melbourne for houses, apartment buildings and offices, including systems another company installed. We find the fault first, whether it sits in the door panel, the handset, the power supply or the cabling between them. Then we tell you plainly if a repair makes sense or if the unit has reached the end of its life.
Fault Finding On Site
We test the whole call, from the button to the lock, so the repair fixes the real cause.

Urmet entry panels and indoor units, from older analogue setups to newer systems.
Door Release and Locks

Urmet Faults
Common Urmet Intercom Faults We Repair
Most Urmet faults show up in one of four ways. Here is what each one usually means.
No Picture or Black Screen
The call rings but the monitor shows nothing. It is often the door station camera, the video connection or a monitor that has failed.
No Sound or One-Way Audio
You see the visitor but cannot hear them, or they cannot hear you. The speaker, the microphone or a wiring fault is the usual cause.
Door Will Not Release
The call works but the door stays locked. Look at the lock, its power supply and the release wiring first.
Dead or Not Ringing
Nothing happens when a visitor presses the button. This points to power, a call button fault or a break in the line.
Several units failed at once? In a building, that usually means a shared power supply or riser cable, not the individual monitors. Please do not swap units yet. A proper test saves you buying parts you do not need.
Why Diagnosis Matters
Why Urmet Faults Need Proper Testing
Urmet systems are built from several parts that all depend on each other. The door station, the wiring, the power supply and each indoor unit must all work for one call to succeed.
That is why swapping a monitor often changes nothing. If the fault is in the cable or the supply, the new unit fails in the same way. A black screen alone could be the camera, the video cable or the power feeding it.
So we test in a set order, and we do not replace anything until we know it is the cause.
- We check power at the supply and at the door station, under load.
- We test the wiring between the door panel and each indoor unit.
- We test the door station camera, microphone, speaker and call buttons.
- We test the indoor monitor or handset, its screen and its door release button.
- We test the lock and its power, then run a full call from start to finish.
You then get a plain answer: which part failed, why, and what fixes it. You decide what happens next, with the facts in front of you.
Root Causes
What Usually Goes Wrong With Urmet Intercoms
Urmet gear is well made, and many systems run for decades. Age, damp and old wiring are what catch up with them.
Ageing Power Supplies
A tired supply gives weak power. Screens dim, calls drop out and locks stop working.
Weather and Damp at the Door Station
Water gets into outdoor panels. Corroded contacts cause crackly audio and dead buttons.
Worn or Damaged Wiring
Old, cut or badly joined cable breaks the link between the door and the units inside.
Worn Door Locks
Strikes and magnetic locks wear out or lose power, so the door will not release.
We recommend repair when:
- One part has failed and the rest tests well
- The fault is power, wiring or a lock
- The replacement part is still available
We suggest replacement when parts cannot be found, or when several units have failed from age. In that case we say so, and we never push a replacement you do not need.
Urmet Systems
Urmet Systems We Repair
Urmet has made many ranges over the years. We work on the ones we see most in Melbourne buildings.

Sinthesi Entry Panels
The modular stainless panels from the 1083 range. We repair call buttons, speaker and microphone modules, cameras and name plates.

Keypad and Card Reader Modules
Panels built up from several modules. We swap the failed module and leave the working ones in place.

Apartment Building Panels
Large panels serving many flats. We fix display, keypad, camera and card reader faults.

Video Monitors and Handsets
Screens that stay dark, buttons that stick and handsets with no sound, tested and repaired at the unit.
2Voice Two-Wire Systems
Urmet’s digital system that carries picture, sound and door release over just two non-polarised wires. We test the door stations, indoor units and the supply behind them.
IperVoice Systems
Urmet’s IP based system, built on CAT5 cable and the SIP standard. We check the door station, the network side and the indoor units as one chain.
Ipercom Gateways
Large buildings can link several risers through a gateway. A fault there can affect a whole group of flats.
Older Analogue Systems
Earlier multi-wire systems still running in older buildings. We test them and tell you honestly if parts are still available.
Not sure which Urmet system you have? Tell us what the door panel looks like when you book, or use our intercom fault finder. We identify it on site.
Apartment Buildings
Urmet Repairs in Apartment and Strata Buildings
Urmet is especially common in older apartment blocks. One door panel serves many flats, so a single fault can lock out a whole building.
We work on lobby entry panels, shared power supplies and the riser cabling that runs between floors. We can arrange access with your building or strata manager and tell them clearly what we found.
- Lobby and street entry panels
- Shared power supplies and riser cables
- Individual flat monitors and handsets
- A written summary for the owners corporation

- Shared supply: one failed supply can silence many flats.
- Shared riser: one damaged cable can cut off a whole floor.
- One door panel: if it fails, no visitor gets in.
Before You Call
Help Us Find Your Urmet Fault Faster
A few details from you make the visit quicker. None of this needs any tools.
What Is It Doing?
No picture, no sound, no ring, or a door that will not open. The exact symptom points us to the right part first.
When Did It Start?
After a storm, a power cut, building work or a slow decline over months. Timing often reveals the cause.
One Flat or Many?
If several units are affected, the fault is probably shared, such as the supply or riser cable.
A Photo of the Panel
Send a photo of the door panel and the label on your indoor unit if you can. It helps us identify the system before we arrive.

Common Questions
Urmet Intercom Repair FAQ
Do you repair Urmet intercoms that another company installed?
Yes. We work on existing Urmet systems, whoever installed them. We test the system first, then explain what needs fixing.
My Urmet screen is black but the buzzer works. What is wrong?
It can be the door station camera, the video connection, the power supply or the monitor itself. We test each part in turn to find the one that has failed.
I can hear visitors but they cannot hear me. Can you fix it?
Usually, yes. One-way audio often comes from a faulty microphone or speaker, or from a wiring problem. It can normally be fixed without replacing the whole system.
The intercom rings but the door will not open. Why?
That points to the door release side: the lock, its power supply or the wiring to it. It can usually be fixed without replacing the intercom.
Are parts still available for older Urmet systems?
It depends on the range and the age of the unit. We check what is available before you decide, and we tell you honestly if a repair is not worth doing.
Do you repair Urmet intercoms in apartment buildings?
Yes. We work on lobby entry panels, shared power supplies, riser cabling and flat monitors. We can arrange access with your building or strata manager.
Is it better to repair or replace my Urmet intercom?
If one part has failed, repair is usually the better choice. If the system is very old and parts are hard to find, replacement may make more sense. We give you a straight recommendation.
Which areas do you cover?
