Akuvox Not Ringing on the Indoor Monitor or Phone
Someone presses the button at the door, the camera lights up, but nothing rings inside the house or on your phone. Here is how to work through it.
Why This Is Different From “Offline”
A device that shows as offline has stopped talking to the network entirely. This is a different, more common problem: the door station is online and working, a call is genuinely being placed, but the ring never reaches the indoor monitor, the SmartPlus app, or both. That points to something in how the call is being routed or announced, not a dead connection.
In most cases we get called out for, the system is working exactly as configured. Something has muted, forwarded, or scheduled the ring away without anyone meaning to.
The indoor monitor and the phone app are rung independently. It is common for one to work and the other to stay silent, which narrows down the cause quickly.
Properties with more than one indoor monitor or more than one phone linked to the account can have each one configured differently, so only some devices ring.
⚡ Narrow It Down First
Check the monitor’s own volume and Do Not Disturb setting first. This is the single most common cause we find on site.
This almost always comes down to phone notification permissions or the app’s own Do Not Disturb schedule, not the intercom hardware.
Worth checking the door station’s own call settings and whether it is still correctly linked to your account, covered in the steps below.
Step-by-Step Fix
Ringtone Volume and Do Not Disturb on the Monitor
Open the indoor monitor’s own settings menu and check the ringtone volume is not turned down or muted. Also check whether a Do Not Disturb mode has been switched on, either by hand or on a schedule. It is easy to bump these settings by accident while cleaning or adjusting the wall mount.
Notification Permissions on Your Phone
Check the SmartPlus app has notification permission turned on in your phone’s own settings, not just inside the app itself. On iPhone, check Settings > Notifications > SmartPlus. On Android, check the app’s battery and background-activity settings, since some phones aggressively restrict background apps to save power, which silently blocks incoming call alerts.
Do Not Disturb Schedule Inside the App
SmartPlus has its own Do Not Disturb schedule, separate from your phone’s system settings. If it was set up for overnight quiet hours and the time zone or clock is off, it can end up silencing calls at the wrong time of day. Check this schedule inside the app itself.
Confirm the Monitor or Phone Is Still Linked
If a monitor or phone was ever removed and re-added to the account, or if the household Wi-Fi password changed and a device was never reconnected, it can drop out of the call group silently while everything else keeps working. Confirm each device still appears under the same property and account in the app.
Check the Call Group if There Is More Than One Monitor or Phone
Properties with more than one indoor monitor, or more than one family member’s phone linked, usually have them grouped so all ring together. If a device was added later, it is sometimes left out of that group by default and needs to be added manually.
Update the App and Device Firmware
An outdated SmartPlus app version can behave inconsistently with notifications, and older device firmware can have known call-handling bugs that later updates fix. Update the app from your phone’s app store, and check for a firmware update from the door station’s own web interface or the app’s device settings.
Restart the Monitor and the Door Station
A simple power cycle of the indoor monitor and door station clears a surprising number of stuck call-routing states. Power each one off, wait about 30 seconds, then power it back on. Test a call from the door station once both are fully restarted.
Still Not Ringing?
If you have checked the steps above and calls still are not ringing through, the issue is usually inside the device’s SIP call configuration, which needs the door station’s own admin login to inspect properly. That is a job for a technician rather than trial and error.
What SIPKO Checks During a Ringing Fault Call-Out
Call Routing Configuration
We check how the door station is set up to ring each monitor and phone, and whether every device that should be included actually is.
Account and Device Linking
We confirm every monitor and phone is registered against the same property in the SmartPlus platform, since a mismatched account is a common silent cause.
Network Path for Push Alerts
Push notifications rely on a working path from the device to the cloud and back to your phone. We check this end to end rather than guessing at one link in the chain.
🏢 Apartments and Shared Entry Systems
In apartment buildings with a shared entry panel, the panel usually needs to dial a specific extension or unit number to reach your indoor monitor and phone. If a unit number was entered incorrectly during setup, or changed later without updating the panel, calls to your unit will not ring even though the rest of the system works normally.
Quick Checklist
- Monitor volume: Not muted, Do Not Disturb switched off.
- Phone notifications: Allowed at the phone’s system level, not just in-app.
- App schedule: SmartPlus Do Not Disturb hours checked and correct.
- Device linking: Every monitor and phone still shows under the right property.
- Call group: Newer devices added to the shared ring group.
- Updates: App and firmware both on the latest version.

Frequently Asked Questions
The camera shows video but there is no sound of ringing at all. Is that normal?
No, a working call should always trigger an audible ring on at least one connected device. If you can see a call attempt in the app’s call log but hear nothing anywhere, work through the volume and Do Not Disturb checks first, since a silent-but-logged call almost always traces back to one of those settings.
My phone rings but the indoor monitor does not, or the other way around
This is common and points to a setting on the one device that stays silent, not a fault with the door station. Check that specific device’s own volume, Do Not Disturb setting, and whether it is still correctly linked to the account.
Does closing the SmartPlus app stop calls from coming through?
It should not, since push notifications are designed to reach your phone even when the app is closed. If calls only come through while the app is open, check your phone’s background activity and battery-optimisation settings for the app, since some phones restrict background notifications by default.
We just moved into a property with an existing Akuvox system. Could that be why it is not ringing?
Yes. If the account was never transferred to you, or your phone was never added as a new user, the door station may still only be configured to ring the previous occupant’s devices. This needs to be set up fresh under your own account.
Can a Wi-Fi outage cause missed calls without any other symptoms?
Yes, briefly. If your home internet drops out for even a short period while a call is placed, the push notification to your phone can fail silently, while a wired indoor monitor on the same network may still ring if it reconnects fast enough. This is usually a one-off rather than a recurring pattern.
Will a factory reset fix a ringing problem?
It can, but it also wipes the device’s configuration, including its call routing and any custom settings, so it should be a last resort rather than a first step. Work through the settings checks above first, since most ringing faults do not need a reset at all.
How many phones and monitors can ring at the same time?
Akuvox systems can ring multiple indoor monitors and multiple linked phones together as a group, so everyone in the household can be alerted from a single call. Exactly how many depends on your specific hardware and cloud plan, so check your device’s own settings for the current limit.
