What actually drains the battery

Several operating factors can change battery life. The estimator applies only the factors that are relevant to the selected device.

Manufacturer baseline

For devices with a published numeric baseline, we start from Ajax’s stated calculated battery life. Transmitter Jeweller is handled separately because Ajax currently lists its battery life as TBC.

Temperature

Cold weather makes any lithium battery work harder. Outdoor sensors in Melbourne winters lose more capacity than indoor ones.

Signal & ping interval

For detectors and other polled devices, weaker communication and shorter ping intervals can increase radio activity. Ping interval is not applied to SpaceControl or Button in passive mode.

How this estimate works: for devices with a numeric battery-life baseline published by Ajax, we adjust that baseline for temperature, signal strength, applicable ping frequency and daily activations using Sipko Security’s own estimation model. SpaceControl and Button do not use the ping adjustment in passive mode. Ajax currently lists Transmitter Jeweller battery life as TBC because it can power a connected third-party detector, so the calculator does not invent a fixed lifespan for that device. This is a theoretical planning estimate, not a guarantee — actual battery life depends on the installation, settings, battery quality and operating conditions.
